Two friends and I stopped by Bliss on Friday night around 11:30. I hadn't heard much from them since they opened three weeks ago, but I was curious about seeing the space. The address said Griffin Street -- was that in a downtown office building?
Turns out it's in a caramel-colored building near the Dallas World Aquarium. And it's actually pretty nice out front. They've got velvet ropes, leafy landscaping. The look was almost "desert chic" -- like something you'd see in Arizona or on an island somewhere. Very different for Dallas, where most of the hotspots don't even have a facade anymore because they're underground.
There wasn't a line when we got there, but the door host (who wore a suit and carried a clipboard) still asked us: "Are you on the list?"
I said no and assumed he'd let us in anyway. He did.
There were only maybe 50 people there, which made the place look empty. (It's big, going against Ultra Lounge Rule No. 1.) There's also an actual delineated dance floor (breaking U.L. rule No. 2) and a stripper pole next to it, which remained empty during the time we were there. Drat.
The modern, low-slung black furniture and drippy chandeliers reminded me of Dolce. (Which in turn reminded me of Suite, when they first opened.)
The crowd: Mostly scantily clad under-25 year-olds.
Dress code: Fauxhawk, graphic-print tees on guys; teensy, barely-butt-covering dresses on girls.
Overall: It's new. Who knows what it'll turn into. I did like the music -- old Missy Elliott, current hip-hop jams. And hopefully they'll add more to the bar. Couldn't get my usual raspberry vodka and soda because they didn't have the vodka. But they did have raspberry liqueur. Unfortunately I don't like to drink syrup when I'm out late...
Hay just a minute you said that this is a new night club so lay off the bad comments about this joint. Give the club some time to establish their name or help them out by putting a good word in for them to the public or have a talk with the boss and tell them what you think about them or how they need to change.
Hey Angela -- Thanks for your comment. I don't think I've said anything bad about the place. I actually LIKE that they're larger than all of the usual ultra lounges, and that they have a real dance floor... and I did say they were new, so of course the place has room to grow. But I am going to try to give a fair account of what I saw. Saying "I loved it!" when I really didn't isn't really my job. That's why bars hire promoters and PR people. If you've been there, though, I'd be interested in hearing what you thought about the place....
Hey Lesley.I just now read all about Bliss that you wrote. You are a journalist, right, so your job is to tell the truth the way You see it,of course you`ve visited a lot bars,that`s your job, being so,that gives you some credibility. I didn`t really sense any bad-mouth-ing in your review,it`s just that a jurnalist`s word leeds people to create a certain idea of about a certain place or thing. What i find wrong about you as a journalist Only,is that, why didn`t you do some more researching,talk to the owner or the manager, see what they are aiming to build and offer to people? Personally, i went with my friends there last weekend, and had a blast like i don`t remember, and the reason was that we actually had where to dance,enjoy the music,and after a few shots, my friend hit the pole too, the other one, not the VIP one, cuz that was booked by a group that was celebrating a B-Day,and everybody that was there saw how much fun they had,i e mean girls and guys hit that pole haha.BLISS is not a Lounge, it`s an actual Dance Club, We`re tired of all these Ultra Lounges that are so stiff and you can`t even move,i mean,i`m a girl, girls like to be seductive, shake there booty, if you do that at these lounges, you goonna look odd, out of place,you just can`t let loose.These lounges are all the same to me.Bliss is different in everything,nothing there reminds me of the other places, which is very refreshing to me.Plenty of parking in front, Valley optional,these is what you need to know also, cuz at other places we need to park God knows where! I really had fun there, so i just wanted to let you and your readers know what my experience at Bliss was.I will certainly go back there this weekend, so, who ever is meaning to come, take note: The striper pole is occupied : Good luck to Bliss and to you Lesley!P.S. sorry for the length of this comment;
