You may have already heard this if you're a fan of Dallas pop trio the Tah-dahs. Seems frontman Roy Ivy and wife (also a beloved local singer) Laura Palmer are packin' up and leaving Dallas, putting an end to their musical careers in these parts.
After the jump, read Roy's MySpace bulletin. We'll have much more on this when the farewell show gets closer.
"Hello nice people. People who were there. People who weren't. Every name I forgot because I drink too much and i smoke too much and i drink too much, etc...
Hello precious teenagers who put our songs on mix tapes and still didn't get the girl.
Hello to that dude who lost his virginity to "john and yoko and ted and alice," which is still flattering and downright weird. Of all the songs to f*** to....wow, really?
Hello to my peers, who keep on trucking and have five years left to give up.
I hope the times do a-change and music devolves to the old days and we all just get in the f***in' van and have some adventures. Gas is cheap and people gotta buy t-shirts! They want it all. B-sides, C-sides, side projects, and gigantic foam fingers for the number one fans (they heard of you first, ya know.) I root for you, my friends.
Rooty root root!
a big hello to the days when it was just plain fun to play and you didn't need to make a dime. chicks dug that whole "damaged genius" schtick and bought your weed for you.
A gigantic "How d'ya do!" to that time and space where your punk ethos screamed "I ain't sellin' out for s***!"
You know, before we all starting prayin' to be in car commercials?
And a big goodbye.
this summer is IT.
i'm done. i'm old, and playing here is simply depressing.
If i had a sliver of faith that the Dallas scene will return to its glory days, i wouldn't make such a declaration.
But let's not kid ourselves. Some have a leg up, but most of us are fucking a corpse.
And maybe that body's been dead since the 90's, maybe it's just four years gone--but a corpse is a corpse and you can't f*** it back to life.
Despite all better reason, I still like to write songs and sing them and play them. Hell, i even like to play without bein' piss drunk.
So I'm having a few last shouts.
Tomorrow night (friday), I am playing a long solo show at
Cafe Rembrandt
703 McKinney Ave, Dallas, TX
75202
I go on at 11:45 and I'm playing every song i know. Show up if you can. The place is run by nice people and bartenders need love.
The Tah-Dahs have a show on July 19th at City Tavern, and a farewell show (TBA) in August...but that's it.
