... and I'm lovin' the first mix of the summer that the WeShotJR folks commissioned for their "We Shot a Mix" series. It was put together by Tommy Boy, who cleverly decided to keep things old-school. The fonk! Get it here.
It appears that this evening's Lost Generation at Fallout Lounge, featuring the offbeat selections of DJ Wanz Dover, will be the last of its kind. Wanz sent a message via MySpace announcing his weekly musical tour of the underground at the Expo Park bar had been dropped from the calendar.
"In true Dallas fashion I am being canned for another hip hop night. I like hip hop, but do we really need another night of it? After tomorrow there will be no place to go have a drink and hear some cutting edge underground toonz," Wanz wrote.
A call to Fallout Lounge to confirm this info wasn't answered (understandable, since it's daytime). Wanz wrote that Lost Generation tonight will be his last, and he plans to go out in style.
"I am starting at 9 p.m. so I can play an extra long setlist. I will be joined by special guests for a special live set at some point during the night."
Where you've seen him:Green Elephant - Sunday Sessions(1st Sunday each month); founder of Poor Vida, a local artists' collective that produces music, events, video and other media.
Memorable DJ Booth Moment: The Great Keg Beer Spill of New Years Eve 2001. My infamous friend Jeff Spock and I were playing dnb at a packed out house party. Everybody was rockin and I just started to lay down a few tracks when suddenly the sound just cackles and dies out. Everyone stops to stare at me, I look over at Jeff "Deer In Headlights" Spock only to see he was blinded by the fact he commited the ultimate party foul - spilling beer into audio circuitry.
Dream gig:
1. Conducting for the Dallas Symphony Orchestra 2. Opening up with MC Astro for Pharcyde.
As we mentioned in Quick a few days ago, Prince William recently lost a bunch of his DJ equipment during a home invasion. Friends held a benefit last Thursday at the Double Wide, and the DJ -- who you've probably seen around, he's usually the tallest guy in the room -- managed to raise about $1,000.
The next day at The Party, where PW is known to frequent, "people kept walking up to him and giving him money," says Sober, one of the Party DJs.
A few thoughts from a grateful Prince:
I pledge allegiance to dallas which is the coolest mother(expletive) city on the planet. i promise to give all that love back to my people in any way i can. that was an amazing night of music and i swear its even worth the loss just for that.
the money will probably go towards paying off the debt i had for the newest macbook i had bought a few months ago and am still paying on.
the money will clear up my credit and allow me to go ahead and bite the bullet and get one of those new boys (macbook pro) that coincidentaly dropped the same week as my benefit. i barely even look at it as a loss. im gonna update all my gear and have a very precisely edited and organised playlist to build my dj sets up from.
alot of big works coming this year. Lookout for Hawatha Hurd's Plastic Money mixtape and also the damaged good$ l.p. on big dada
Memorable DJ booth moment: I was playing with Above and Beyond for a Fire show at the Lizard Lounge. Their Last song was Oceanlabs' Satellite which happens to be a favorite! On the main break, they turned the volume down and had the whole club singing along to the vocals! It was an amazing moment! I stood there extremely nervous, wondering how anyone was suppose to play after what i just witnessed. I was a bit scared, trying to figure out what i was going to play to keep the crowd going. Fortunately i did a good job according to the feedback and reviews. So far thats been one of my most memorable moment on stage.
Dream gig: Some day I'd love to play with digweed, sasha, and james Zabiela
